Tonight is the kick-off of this year's season of American Idol. I am just wondering what you all think of the show in general? Are you happy/excited to see it back? Do you care at all? I personally enjoy the show. I haven't watched it from season 1, but I watched every episode of last year's season, and plan to do so this year. I was/am just trying to get a preshow discussion going. Hopefully some will have more to say after the first one tonight. It can be found on fox at 8 eastern, 7 central. enjoy!! Katie

Well, it's certainly a good thing I have a good opportunity to exercise; all this walking on campus. After ordering all this pizza/eating junk food, I need it!! lol. Yes, I must admit, I suppose I have caused AI to grow on my roommate...but, that is not a bad thing is it? Let's face it, if she didn't have me, what would she do...*wink*. I also got her hooked to the zone, so, welcome her...she's a newby!! Katie

If she didn't have you, she'd spend all day with her head buried in a textbook. *smile*

OK I think I'm going to break up this pathetic roomate Internet dialog and contribute. When this show first came out, I immediately dismissed it. I mean, why would I want to listen to people who can't sing? By the second season, I started catching a few episodes, but didn't last long enough to see Ruben win. By last season, when I went on my Internet hiatus, I had nothing better to do, so I started watching it from the beginning. All I can say is: if they can find another Fantasia, then there's hope for the show. I think she was the most talented winner they've ever had, even though I liked Latoya better. So yes, A.I. is now a guilty pleasure, and I have to watch the whole season because there's a friend I discuss it with. Simon Cowell was on Leno last night, and he said this was the worst season he'd ever seen. He brought a video with some clips from the show, and based on that, I'd tend to agree with him, although I realize they intentionally show the worst singers to advertise the show. For some reason, reality TV draws people in by thriving on humiliating them. I think the one exception to this, and the most heartwarming reality TV show I've ever seen, is Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

personally i think these talent shows aren't actually looking for talent, what most of them are looking for is a look, an image, a face that will sell records. Pete Waterman decided not to go on pop idol again because the girl who won was grossly overweight and he felt that it was not in keeping with the idea of the show. The reality is, that since she won, she has not been heard of since.

I too just started watching AI last season. However, I thought Diana should've won!!! She was reallyyyy good! I missed last night's show because of a VCR mal-function...well, something like that...lol! Hopefully, I'll catch tonight's though. Simon thought this season was the worst...I find that funny because on the fox.com website he says it is a good season...at least the guys are performing better. Meanwhile, the only reality TV shows I watch are American Idol and Nashville Star. I personally find shows like Survivor and the Apprentice pointless...but that's just me. I haven't really followed Wife Swap either through all season, but it sounds like an interesting show to say the least. Ok, I guess that's all for now. Anyone want to do my homework? *smile*. K

My friend told me it's going again, and going well. I haven't watched it myself. Too busy studying for finals. Lol.
